As a counselor, he has helped hundreds of active-duty service members, veterans, retirees, and military families overcome various mental health challenges. He strives to ensure each individual can safely explore their thoughts and feelings in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.
Charles is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) In North Carolina and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) endorsed by the National Board of Certified Counselors. He graduated from Andrews University with a Masters of Divinity (M.Div.) in 2011, and from Liberty University with a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2022 and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Pastoral Counseling in 2015. During his M.A. degree program at Liberty, he successfully completed a one-year internship at the Community Counseling Program at Camp Lejeune, NC, working with military service members and couples.
Charles has served a broad range of clients from young adults to older adults. He believes in a wholistic view of counseling, in that thoughts, feelings, behaviors, emotions, spirituality, and relationships all contribute to the issues and challenges we face. He most often uses techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which involves working on thoughts and how they influence our actions and emotions. He will also use a variety of other evidence-based methods depending on your individual needs and situation. These methods include Solution-Focused Therapy, where solutions for current issues are developed based on what has worked well for you in the past, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), where previous past traumas and other anxiety-producing events are processed.
